New Wallpaper for your Windows Vista Desktop: Made by me!

For the last week, I had been using one of the photos I took on my recent trip around Washington State as my desktop wallpaper. It was an image I took in the Columbia River Gorge near an abandoned railroad track. I got down really close to the railroad track for a really interesting shot. I think it looks really neat as a desktop wallpaper so I thought I'd create a range of different sizes of the image to share with you - the readers of the Windows Vista Team Blog - to use as your desktop wallpaper on your PC.

I've created a range of sizes of the wallpaper for you to download depending on your display resolution via Windows Live SkyDrive:

The shot was taken using the Certified for Windows Vista DSLR Canon Digital Rebel XTi.

Let me know what you think!

You won't find abandoned railways here in Britain. The tracks here have a third bar, but the train doesn't drive on it. The bar has electricity running through it, and that's where the train gets its power from.

It's a VERY nice shot, but I'm going to stick with the one I got from NASA.

Titan602, do share your NASA wallpaper ;-)

windows vista ultimate user254, this wallpaper was created by *me* on my own time for Windows Vista and is not associated with anything regarding Windows Vista Ultimate specifically or as a Ultimate Extra. It simply is a cool wallpaper I created for the readers of our blog that I wanted to share. Please don't confuse this wallpaper with anything having to do with Ultimate Extras.

To reiterate: this wallpaper is not suppose to be any sort of Ultimate Extra. It was shot by created for you. The wallpaper looks great on any version of Windows Vista :-)

So please enjoy the wallpaper :-)

i know but it been 2 years since we havent got any ultimate extras i just wished you send something so we wont be cheaped out.wow you have guts to make windows vista but you have no balls to make any extra programs for consumers who buy 400$ on a os called 'ULTIMATE'

  11. Posted on: April 06, 2008 at 11:43PM

no wonder windows 7 is coming early then it expected because windows vista is another windows ME and with the vista capable logo lawsuit, windows vista appear in the trash lately.what im saying dont lie to your consumer and dont promise anything like windows ultimate extra the wallpaper is cool but wtf at least send us a wallpaper or two each month so we won't get cheaped by a stupid lie that microsoft created to put money to your investments..i hope Windows 7 doesnt turn out as this lie im sorry but your pushing us too far

windows vista ultimate user254, I totally understand where you're coming from and as I've said - I relay your feedback to folks at Microsoft. When we have info to give you on Ultimate Extras, you can expect to hear about it here. However, I must put the reminder out to keep feedback constructive in comments.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

    Hi Brandon,

while I like the setting of the photo, I think it misses some sharpness in the front. On the other hand, the bokeh of the shot is too sharp. So the front of the photo does not differ enough from the background and if you look at the shot for the first time, you won't find "the point" to look at. Which lens have you used? And which aperture settings?

Anyhow, great shot, don't see that as a critic ;-)

Vista is not ME.  ME was just an attempt to make a little more money between 98 and 2000 and shouldn't be taken seriously.  Vista was an actual attempt to make a real OS that failed miserably.

    Brandon,

Great wallpaper. Thank you. Actually, you've just inspired me to make my OWN wallpaper.

    :)

I do, however agree with the Ultimate extra's letdown (as a suggestions, perhaps offering LiveCare for all Ultimate users would be a great compromise...at the least?), but also understand that this has nothing to do with this blog either.

    :)

Ceinach, would love to see any wallpapers you make of your own! Also - feedback taken on Ultimate Extras as always.

BleedingGuitar, I am open to *any* feedback and suggestions on how to take better photos. I took the image with the 18-55 lense that Canon sent me with the camera. I am not sure what the aperture settings were at the moment I took the photo. What would have been better in terms of apeture etc to make this photo bettter?

hi ppl i have seen lots of stuff on net well every where themes walls blah blah blah.

i m not a IT kind a thing but i was realy thinking about one thing about which only MS can do and that is if we can hav diffrenet type of Aero colors in Vista bars then y we can not add this thing for vista detail pan, navigation pan and somthing like that. i think its just an updats for MS i kno its big job to do. just need to make more option in the corner of navigation pan or in tolls n thats it job done.if we made this thing available then there wont be a 2nd theme on net and they will be shut like old garage.

wot do u think guys m i rite??

plz MS do somthing about it ??????

itss mee, you can change the color of the Windows Aero window pane. When you have Windows Aero running (that's "Glass") you can right-click on your desktop and click properties. Then go to Window Color and Appearance and you can change the color of the Windows Aero window panes and title bars there.
