25GB of Free Online Storage with Windows Live SkyDrive

The Windows Live SkyDrive Team has posted a in-depth post offering a overview of what’s coming with their next update. First and foremost: Windows Live SkyDrive will be boosting everyone’s storage from 5GB to 25GB. Secondly, they want to give you more control over your files by offering you new features to do so:

  • Download photos directed to your to Windows Live Photo Gallery.
  • Download as a .zip file. Download an entire folder in one compressed file (initially available only in the United States, Denmark, and Ireland).
  • Move files between folders.
  • Copy files to multiple folders.

Sharing photos is huge these days. They’ve added almost 20 new features to make the photo experience on Windows Live SkyDrive even better such as supporting People Tags, bigger thumbnails, and a new online slideshow using Microsoft Silverlight.

You will be able to also keep your Internet Explorer favorites synced up with multiple PCs using Windows Live SkyDrive and Windows Live SkyDrive.

There is a lot coming to Windows Live SkyDrive! Check out their blog post for more details on what’s coming up.

All good but the only real important update is missing: the ability to map Skydrive as a drive letter on your PC...

WoW! 25GB is great! Its huge! :)

Would be great if Live Mesh also gets updated ;)

    @freitasm Yep, I also agree.

Somehow Windows Live FolderShare beta (not sure how many use it) should be included into Windows Live SkyDrive and map folders/drives in local PC

chakkaradeep, good feedback for the Windows Live folks. Windows Live FolderShare is very much in active development and is now officially Windows Live Sync. Expect to see a release supporting Windows Live ID very soon.

Another cool thing would be more integration with Windows Live Messenger (btw still no fix for the custum emoticon mess!). Kind of a usually greyed out button or option in the chat window with a specific person that starts to work when that person shares something for you on Skydrive. As for now, notification only works through EMail, right?

@Brandon Thanks for the update! :)

Can I suggest that a feature is enabled in the SkyDrive service that allows you to transfer from other sites to SkyDrive? For instance, if I wanted to put the latest version of Internet Explorer in my SkyDrive, instead of having to wait to download it to my computer then uploading it to SkyDrive, I can just insert the url and it will do it for me.

This would also help in terms of slow sites, where the server transfers it and we can get a fast download from the SkyDrive website.

I like the download fodler to a zip file function, could be usefull for sharing photos.  Just have to wait until the UK gets added so I can test it out with my family on the other side of the pond!

I don't think 25gb are going to change anything :'(

having so much space is worthless if you only can upload 50mb per file

when I tried to share an HD video I created the upload failed after a few minutes.

I would like to be able to drag folders and sub-folders over to the upload window. If you have 5GB of photos having them all dumped in one main folder is too much to keep track of.

Will the file size limit (currently 50MB) be increased or removed. Having 25GB of space and only being able to upload files of 50MB or less is not really helping.

This should be interesting, MS is on the right track , still all of theses services sometime sync and interact with each other too slowly, other than that hiccup you guys gave me another reason to  enjoy Live.
